Nearly CV

My first name is of the Greek origin and means a defender or protector. My last name, Poylisher, is a Yiddish adjective for Polish. As far as I know, all my ancestors several generations back have been Ashkenazi Jews.

I was born, grew up and went to secondary school in beautiful Chernivtsi, Northern Bukovyna, in south-western Ukraine.

[MIIT Logo] A wonderful part of my life is connected with Moscow, Russia, and particularly Moscow Institute of Railroad Engineers, where I studied Computer Engineering in 1987-1991. Some of my dearest friends live in Moscow.

In 1992, my family moved to the United States and since then I have lived in New York City, Wilton, Ct.; Troy, N.Y., and Morristown, N.J.

[RPI] In December 1995, I graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. (summa cum laude) in Computer Science.

In January 1999 I moved to England and since then have lived in Leamington Spa, Sheffield, and Ipswich.

[Warwick] In November 2004, I defended a Ph.D. thesis at the University of Warwick, Coventry.

Since February 2004, I have lived in New York City, Leamington Spa and Seattle.

Things that I like

Rain. Good whisky. Castles. Sitting by a fireplace. The color green. Running over spring grass barefoot. The Carpathian Mountains. Fine mechanical watches. Beech forests. Thornton's special toffee. Modern architecture. Subtleties...

Plans

Understanding who I am. Why I am. Helping people around me. Loving.

Why is that goose there?

Because I envy the freedom of wild geese; sometimes I think I'd rather be one. Seriously. :-)
