About the Project and this report.

This project provides you with a mechanism of monitoring a Local Area Network. The details are given in following chapters. The project was proposed by Intel Ltd. company for the Technion Software Lab in order to present a convenient and stable interactive LAN monitoring engine. The project is a prototype of a future system that is likely to be used in Intel Israel at Haifa. Likewise mechanisms for LAN monitoring exist, like NetView(TM), PatchView(TM) or OpenView(TM), but they present partial solutions of the discussed problem. A comparison to those systems is given below as well.

Audience

This document is intended for Network Engineers and anyone else dealing with SNMP. It also is of interest for Perl programmers and may serve an example of HTML/CGI applications.
